What are the issues involved with a colonic polyps?
COLONIC POLYPS of the colon, particularly adenomatous polyps, are a risk factor for colon cancer. The removal of colon polyps at the time of colonoscopy reduces the subsequent risk of colon cancer. Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of death among cancers in the Western world.
Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps in the colon. Who get colonic polyps? Anyone can get polyps, but certain people are more likely than others. You may have a greater chance of getting polyps (1) if you're over 50, (2) you've had polyps before, (3) someone in your family has had polyps, (4) someone in your family has had cancer of the large intestine.

Be aware of the dangers involved with a colonic polyps!!!
Most colonic polyps are not dangerous. Most are benign, which means they are not cancer. But over time, some types of polyps can turn into cancer. Usually, polyps that are smaller than a pea aren't harmful. But larger polyps could someday become cancer or may already be cancer. To be safe, doctors remove all polyps and test them. And there is also the so-called 'polyposis coli syndrome'.
Most colorectal cancer arise from adenomatous polyps. These lesions can be detected and removed during colonoscopy. Studies show this procedure would decrease by > 80% the risk of cancer death, provided it is started by the age of 50, and repeated every 5 or 10 years.
